To encourage equity, diversity, and inclusion in the library profession, PLA is sponsoring fifteen (15) general conference scholarship with five (5) scholarships in each of three categories: Early-career Library Staff Scholarships, Non-Salaried or Unemployed Library Staff Scholarships, and Library School Student Scholarships. Each scholarship includes complimentary registration, one year of ALA and PLA membership, and a $500 stipend for travel and housing. These scholarships provide financial assistance for public library workers and students to be able to attend the PLA 2022 Conference in person in Portland, March 23–25. These scholarships may not be applied toward the PLA 2022 Virtual Conference.

Early-career Library Staff Scholarships aim to provide opportunities for library workers who have five years or less of library experience to learn, network, and develop new skills by attending the PLA Conference for the first time.
Non-salaried or Unemployed Library Staff Scholarships provide opportunities for those who are unemployed, furloughed, or in a library service position at a salary less than $30,000 a year to expand their professional horizons and find career opportunities by participating in the PLA Conference.
Library School Student Scholarships provide opportunities for any library science and/or information science students to explore a career in public librarianship and learn about current issues affecting public libraries at the PLA Conference.

PLA is committed to creating an inclusive environment for all our members and is consistently advocating for equity, diversity, inclusion, and social justice. In awarding the scholarships, preference will be given to applicants from diverse cultural/ethnic backgrounds and applicants who identify as members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
The selection committee will strive to achieve diversity and balance among scholarship recipients and will also consider financial need and geographical location of the applicant.
Scholarships are non-transferrable. If a recipient is unable to attend the PLA 2022 Conference in person in Portland, OR, then the scholarship will revert back to PLA to be awarded to another scholarship applicant. Scholarship funds will be disbursed in US Dollars only, and currency conversion (if necessary) will be the responsibility of the recipient.
