SPECIAL PRECONFERENCE: ATTENDANCE IS BY APPLICATION ONLY
All attendees are required to submit the application, which will be reviewed and approved by PLA leadership. Application deadline extended until December 30, 2011. Applicants will be notified of acceptance by January 18, 2012. Once accepted, PLA will confirm registration. Fees to be paid after acceptance to program.
Target Audience: Public library administrators, senior managers, and staff assuming new responsibilities who want to increase their capacity to lead, with an eye toward managing future challenges. Attendees should have a minimum of five years management experience or be stepping into a management role with greater responsibility.
This fast-paced and interactive leadership development program is an opportunity for current and future public library leaders to fortify their leadership skills so that they may be better prepared to manage the challenges that public libraries will face in the coming years. Topics include: demographic shifts; institutional relevance; and new economic, business, and service models.

At the end of this preconference, participants will:
- Develop a leadership skills portfolio;
- Understand and apply change management theories; and
- Know how to extend their professional network in order to stay ahead of critical issues and current trends.
