Don’t miss out on the ever-popular author luncheons and the Audio Publishers Association Dinner. These events are always in high demand and are among the first to sell out, so get your tickets early. Check this page regularly for updated information about speakers. Use the registration form to secure your tickets. Meal events do require an additional fee.
Preconference Luncheon featuring Meg Cabot Tuesday, March 25 Noon - 1:45pm
Meg Cabot Meg Cabot is the author of more than 40 books for both adults and teens, many of which have been bestsellers, most notably The Princess Diaries series, which is currently being published in over 37 countries, has sold more than fifteen million copies worldwide, and was made into two hit movies by Disney. In spring 2008, Meg is making her first foray into middle-grade series with Allie Finkle's Rules For Girls. Book one will be published in March 2008 by Scholastic Press. Allie Finkle is instantly relatable, entirely original, and sure to be everyone’s favorite fourth grader. In June 2008, Meg will debut a new series for teens, Airhead from Scholastic/Point. Meg divides her time between New York City and Key West with a primary cat (one-eyed Henrietta), various back-up cats, and her husband. PLA thanks Scholastic for its support of this event.
Children’s Author Luncheon featuring Pat Mora and Raul Colon Thursday, March 27 Noon-1:45pm
Pat Mora, writer, and Raúl Colón, illustrator, will be the keynote speakers at the Children’s Author Luncheon. PLA thanks Random House Children's Books for its support of this event.

Pat Mora Pat Mora is the author of the Pura Belpré Author Honor Book Doña Flor, and Tomás and the Library Lady, an IRA Teachers’ Choice and a Texas Bluebonnet Master List Selection. Pat is a popular national speaker shaped by the U.S.-Mexico border where she was born and spent much of her life. She speaks at conferences, universities, and schools about the writing process, family literacy, and leadership. In fall 2006, she received an Honorary Doctorate in Letters from Buffalo State College (SUNY). Among her other honors are the 2006 National Hispanic Cultural Center Literary Award, The University of Texas at El Paso’s Distinguished Alumna for 2004, and a Civitella Ranieri Fellowship to write in Italy. An administrator and museum director at her alma mater, UT El Paso, she has taught English at all levels. Pat lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico and is the mother of three children.

Raul Colon Raul Colón is the winner of the 2006 Pura Belpré Award for his stunning illustrations in Doña Flor, and is the illustrator for Tomás and the Library Lady, an IRA Teachers’ Choice and a Texas Bluebonnet Master List Selection. Raul Colón was born in New York City in 1952 and moved with his parents to Puerto Rico in the 1960s, where he studied commercial art. In 1988, the artist settled with his family in New City, New York. Raul is a versatile and acclaimed illustrator whose work has been included in national publications, including The New York Times and Time magazine. Raul was chosen as the cover artist for The New Yorker’s Millennium issue and most recently for this publication, had a powerful cover depicting an American soldier with a target on his back. In addition, Raul has created imagery for CD covers, book covers, and theater posters. Puerto Rico’s Banco Popular created multiple campaigns around Raul’s depictions of Hispanic music, and the New York City Manhattan Transit Authority commissioned two large posters for display in subway stations.

Jacqueline Winspear
Sponsored by Audio Renaissance/BBC Audiobooks America/Henry Hol Jacqueline Winspear is the author of four Maisie Dobbs novels: Maisie Dobbs, Birds of a Feather, Pardonable Lies, and Messenger of Truth. Maisie Dobbs won the Agatha, Alex, and Macavity awards; Birds of a Feather won the Agatha Award; and Pardonable Lies won the Sue Feder/Macavity Award for Best Historical Mystery. Winspear recorded the abridged edition of Pardonable Lies, and she was delighted to have Orlagh Cassidy read the unabridged edition, for which she won an AudioFile Earphones Award. Her latest novel in the Maisie Dobbs series, An Incomplete Revenge, is due out in February 2008.
Scott Brick
Sponsored by Books on Tape/Random House Actor, screenwriter, and audiobook narrator Scott Brick has credits in film, television, stage, and radio. In 2001, he was hired by Morgan Freeman and Revelations Entertainment to adapt Arthur C. Clarke’s Rendezvous With Rama for the big screen. He’s won over 30 Earphones Awards, as well as the 2003 Audie Award for Dune: The Butlerian Jihad. AudioFile Magazine named Brick “one of the fastest-rising stars in the audiobook galaxy,” and proclaimed him a Golden Voice. In 2007, Brick was named Narrator of the Year by Publishers Weekly. He is currently writing his first novel.

Adult Author Luncheon Thursday, March 27 Noon-1:45pm
Arthur Frommer Arthur Frommer's career in travel began when he was drafted into the U.S. Army and assigned to U.S. Army Intelligence in Germany shortly after his graduation from Yale Law. In the course of that service, Arthur's love of travel blossomed and he wrote The GI's Guide to Traveling in Europe. Today, Frommer's® travel guides, published by Wiley, Inc., consist of more than 340 titles. Currently, Arthur writes a syndicated travel column and presents a weekly nationwide radio program on travel. In addition to writing 30 yearly editions of his guidebook to Europe, he has written numerous other guides to destinations in the US and abroad; published hundreds of magazine articles; and is the author of five annual editions of a path-breaking analysis of the entire travel industry entitled The New World of Travel.
Pauline Frommer Pauline Frommer is the creator of the new Pauline Frommer guidebooks, a line of savvy, budget-conscious guidebooks. Her book, Pauline Frommer's New York City was named "Best Guidebook of the Year" by the North American Travel Journalists Association. In addition, she co-hosts The Travel Show with her father, Arthur Frommer; heard on more than 100 stations nationwide. She also appears weekly on CNNOnline.com to discuss the latest trends in travel, and is a frequent guest on MSNBC, CNN, FOX, and Business Week Weekend. Adult Author Luncheon Friday, March 28 Noon - 1:45am
Louise Erdrich Louise Erdrich is the author of twelve novels, as well as volumes of poetry, children’s books, and a memoir of early motherhood. She lives in Minnesota, and is the owner of Birchbark Books, a small independent bookstore. Her new book, The Plague of Doves, is scheduled to go on sale April 29, 2008.
