Dear PLA National Conference Program Organizer:
The 2008 PLA National Conference, March 25-29, 2008, in Minneapolis, Minnesota promises to be the best PLA National Conference ever. We will owe our success in great part to you for all the work you will be doing in the days ahead. We could not do it without you. Thank you for your dedication to the conference and to public librarianship.
This web site, an online guide to the duties attached to the role of Program Organizer, was created to give you easy access to an overview of the planning process, to make you aware of key deadlines and to help you get things done. Deadlines are based on past experience of how much time is needed to pull it all together and with a conference of this size, we need the lead-time. We want your program to be the best it can be and by reviewing this site and keeping to the schedule, it will be!
The most important change of which you should be aware is that PLA National Conference is going paperless. This means that PLA will not be distributing handouts at the concurrent program sessions. However, all registrants will be able to access the session handouts before, during, and after the conference online. Onsite there will be a limited number of printing stations available where attendees will be able to print handouts they feel they must have.
If you ever need clarification of anything contained on these pages, please don’t hesitate to contact the PLA staff with questions. Your primary contacts are Linda Bostrom, Manager of Professional Development(lbostrom@ala.org), and Melissa Faubel, Meetings and Special Events Planner (mfaubel@ala.org).
Good luck and thanks for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Raymond Santiago
Chair, 2006 PLA National Conference Committee
