Welcome

Dear Colleagues:

On behalf of the Public Library Association (PLA) Board of Directors and the PLA National Conference Committee, I am pleased to invite you to attend the 11th PLA National Conference to be held at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, Massachusetts, from March 21-25, 2006.

The PLA conference is the major professional development event for public librarians, public library workers, trustees, Friends, library vendors and others with an interest in public libraries. PLA 2006 will provide a wonderful opportunity for all of us to learn new ideas, share success stories, hear best practices, and meet colleagues from across the country and around the world.

PLA 2006 truly offers something for everyone. Whether you enjoy the intensive all-day learning offered at preconference programs (PLA 2006 will offer seven such programs); like to focus on one topic or issue throughout the conference (PLA 2006 features eight learning tracks); would rather attend a variety of programs (over 130 to choose from); want to find out about the latest and best products from our vendors; or wish to partake in the best networking opportunities available to the public library world; you’ll find it all at PLA 2006.

I look forward to joining you in Boston, a lovely city that’s full of interesting things for conference attendees to do and see in their down time. I hope you’ll take advantage of this exciting opportunity to attend one of the best library conferences in the world!

Daniel L. Walters
PLA President 2005-2006
